I have used the u87 a lot in the past. The older ones sounds better. I think something changed in their manufacturing. I prefer the da 87 over it. I bought a pair for a fraction of the price. So smooth and full on my vocals and ac guitar. Good work DA.
So far so good
Great microphone. Warm and clear in detail. So far I've recorded vocals and saxophone and they sound great. Saving up to get another one to record my vibraphone in stereo!
But I blind-tested the 87i on a deep male voice, a gorgeous, alto female voice, a piano, an acoustic guitar, and my voice. I picked the 87i most. I have a matched set of Vintage U87s that are rented most of the time. No one is getting their hands on this one. It's My Mic Now! I love how it sounds flat out of an Apogee Mic Pre A/D. I'm BLOWN AWAY. I have been using a RE20 to do VOs for decades; it's in the rental locker now. I will probably have to get a couple more for my piano.
